Obituary

It is with deep sadness that the family of Samuel "Sam" David Gentile announce his passing at the remarkable age of 95.  He passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, May 30, 2025.  Sam, most recently of Cabot, formerly of Tarentum, was born and raised in Russellton, PA.  He was a graduate of West Deer High School class of '48.  He was born on April 12, 1930, and was preceded in death by his parents, Loreto & Christina (Demoro) Gentile along with his beloved siblings and in-laws Philomena (Joseph) Grovanz, Reatta (Harry) Mull, Della (Joseph) Labrozzi, Mary (Michael "Flip") Micklow, William "Bloc" Gentile, Emma (Richard) Labrozzi, & Olga (George) Hibner.  Admirably, Sam served his country in the Korean War in the Army and worked as a steelworker at Allegheny Ludlum for 43 years, until his retirement in 1992.  After retirement, he enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels for many years.  Sam is survived by the love of his life and wife of 58 years, Ruth Ann (Daniels), whom he met on a Caribbean Cruise.  They gracefully navigated the waves of life and were blessed with 5 children:  Daniel Gentile, Cecilia (David) Love, Linda (Richard) Gold, Karen (Stephen) Rice, Pamela (David) Bonner.  He was the proud Papa of 12 grandchildren:  David & Marie Gentile; Jacob & Isaac Love (Olivia); Jason(Amanda), Bryan, & Cameron Gold; Heather & Justin Rice; Sarah, Julia, & Brandon Bonner and lived to see his 2 beautiful great granddaughters, Ava & Lyla Gold. An avid Pittsburgh Sports Fan, Sam closely followed the Pirates, Steelers and Penguins, win or lose!   He also had a passion for music and dancing.  He could tear up the dance floor with his wife at family gatherings and, up until the final day, would sing along to his favorite tunes.  Over the years, he enjoyed playing many outdoor sports including bocce, softball, basketball, and volleyball to name a few.  We will always cherish the many hours and late nights spent playing games and cards with him. His favorites games were Chinese Checkers, Scopa, and 500 bid.  We will miss his amazing sense of humor, charming smile and friendly personality which had an impact on everybody he met.  Please join with us as we honor his memory 6 to 8 pm, Wednesday, June 4, 2025 and 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm, Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Adam Siemianowski Funeral Home, 179 Starr Road, Russellton, 15076.  A Christian Funeral Mass will be celebrated, 10 AM, Friday, June 6, 2025, at Our Lady of the Lakes, Transfiguration Campus with Rev. James Kurtz.  Samuel will be laid to rest with military honors at Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar Township.  For online condolences, please visit, westdeerfuneralhome.com
