Alice J
Diana
Nov 13, 1930 — Apr 7, 2023
Alice J. Diana (Bigler), 92, passed away Friday, April 7, 2023 after a long, full life. She was preceded in death by the love of her love, Lawrence Diana, to whom she was married for nearly 60 years. They met while he was serving in the Army during the Korean War. Alice is also preceded in death by her parents Frank and Lucy (Walzer) Bigler and her adoring stepmother, Marie (Herzog) Bigler. She is also preceded in death by her sisters Lucille Lang and Rose Roeder; her nephew Robert Roeder; and nieces Diane, Judy, Joyce, and Maria. Alice is survived by her brother-in-law John (Leticia) Diana, sisters-in-law Dorothy (James) Diana and Patricia (Joseph) Diana; loving nieces and nephews Jene (Silvano) Rossini, Linda Roeder, Lois (Robert) Roeder, Patty (Bill) Sacoulas, Cheryl DiCaprio, George (Tara) Lang, and Michael Lang. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews by marriage, and grandnieces and grandnephews, including Melinda Roeder (Aaron) Skrbin, whom she considered her granddaughter.
Alice grew up on her family farm off Saxonburg Blvd. in Indiana Township. Her great-grandparents and grandparents (Bigler/Bichler) were among the founding families of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church (now Our Lady of Perpetual Help) in Glenshaw. She attended St. Mary's School as a young child before graduating from Etna High School. She spent several years working as an administrative assistant and was one of the first female computer programmers for Pittsburgh Steel and then Mellon Bank. She and her husband, Larry, lived in West Deer Twp. for many years before moving to Tampa, Florida, where they spent the winter months. In her later years, she moved to Russellton, PA, where she was a member of Transfiguration Church (now Our Lady of the Lakes Parish). She attended weekly services faithfully until mobility issues made it easier for her to watch the daily mass on television. She prayed the rosary every day.
Alice enjoyed many years of camping with family and friends at Moraine Campland in Butler County. She also enjoyed building puzzles with her friends and neighbors at West Deer Manor in Russellton. She loved saltwater taffy, ladylocks, the color blue, and Dole pineapple whips at Disney World.
Friends and relatives will be received 10 to 11:30 am, Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Adam Siemianowski Funeral Home, Starr Road, Russellton, West Deer Township. A Christian Funeral Mass will be celebrated 12 pm, Wednesday, after visitation, at Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, Transfiguration Campus, Russellton. She will be laid to rest at St Mary of the Assumption Cemetery, Hampton Township.
In lieu of flowers, you may consider a memorial contribution to either Blessed Trinity Academy (formerly St. Mary's School) in Glenshaw, or Autism Society of Pittsburgh, as Alice leaves behind two nephews with autism. She prayed tirelessly for a cure.
